How could you start a weekend full of crazy fashion impressions better than with the Alexander McQueen exhibition at V&A Museum in London?
When this exhibition was shown in New York City at the MoMa, it was one of the top ten most visited exhibitions ever. And now I can understand why. First you have to buy a ticket which has a time slot. Because of that I had one hour time to relax in the museum garden and have a “pimps”, it was sunny and warm… So I think I do not have to notice that I felt a bit tipsy when I entered the exhibit. But it might be the right way to have a pimps before, because I really, really understood the meaning of the works. Yes, I say works, not designs or couture. This man was an artist. He knew how to transport a political statement in clothes, with such incredible aesthetics, quality und finesse.
“You’ve got to know the rules to break them. That’s what I’m here for, to demolish the rules but to keep the tradition.”
– Alexander McQueen
You walk through the exhibition from room to room, each of them has a different theme of collections, music, decoration. All this makes you sink in another world or dimension.
“I find beauty in the grotesque, like most artists. I have to force people to look at things.”
– Alexander McQueen
Shopping
You have to do shopping in London, it is a must. Either you are charmed by one of these flagship stores at Oxfordstreet, or you rummage in the little shops, like in Portobello Road.
Here in Portobello Road, you can find stupid little things or cheap, fancy fashion, shoes or accessories.
To make the Oxfordstreet, you better take a day off. Boyfriend, husband, kids better stay at home, because you will lose the feeling for time. At least, this is what happened to me. I went in the Topshop at Oxford circus, I looked around only a bit, I even did not try anything… then my phone called and somebody familiar told me that I was gone for over an hour. I was in a different dimension… a fashion dimension, where time is running very fast.
At least I could grasp a funny milk-carton-bag before I had to leave and I came back the other day. This store is amazing… there is one floor with some brands or designers, whom I have never seen. I think besides this DJane there is something in the air what makes you euphoric…
Going out in London
Lately there was Soho, where people went out. Somebody told me that there is now another area, a hipper, cooler area to go crazy. It is Shoreditch. This area was the worker area and nobody spoke out loud, if he or she was raised there. But now it is different, it is cool, young people are everywhere and a lot of popup-stores. These popup-stores have always been a good sign that there is a new coming, fashion area. Well, most of the bars and underground clubs are at/in Brick Lane. Luckily… drinks and entering are affordable.
